Skullmonkeys are a race of ape-like creatures that inhabit the Planet Idznak. They were originally described in the Neverhood's Hall of Records, but were later featured in their own game, Skullmonkeys.
Description[]
Skullmonkeys are a race of large, hairless apes who possess skulls instead of actual heads. They like to sing, run around mindlessly, and jump up and down repetitively, but the most important thing they do is eat Klay. Due to their love of Klay, many disputes tend to form among Skullmonkeys. They come in many sizes, shapes, and forms. Some have tails and some are completely coated in metal.
Another key trait is that Skullmonkeys are actually compatible with Blue Ynts. Once the two of them breed, their offspring is said to resemble a White Ynt yet possesses similar behavior to that of a Skullmonkey.
During Skullmonkeys[]
After being shot off the Neverhood, Klogg lands on Idznak, declares himself a king of all Skullmonkeys ("Kloggmonkey"), and makes the Skullmonkeys build him the Evil Engine Number 9. Throughout the game, they (along with Ynts) are the main villains that Klaymen fights.
Trivia[]
- The Skullmonkeys were inspired by a combination of Doug TenNapel's personal fear of monkeys and an episode of The Outer Limits he saw titled "The Architects of Fear" as a kid, which he misremembered as "Architects of Destruction", as stated in a video of him sketching Skullmonkeys for a Kickstarter campaign.
